Azerbaijan bans meat import from Americas

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan has banned the import of meat productions including pork and live swine from the Americas to prevent the deadly new swine flu from entering the country, an official said on Wednesday.
Esger Abdullayev, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Customs Committee, said the ban was imposed on request of the State Veterinary Service.
“If necessary, import of meats from other countries will be banned,†he added.
The new flu virus, which has components of classic avian, human and swine flu viruses, has killed up to 149 people in Mexico and spread to the United States, Canada and Europe, raising fears of a pandemic.
