The World Bank has approved two loans worth 520 million U.S. dollars to fund projects in Tunisia to address food security challenges and reduce regional disparity, the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported Friday, APA reports citing Xinhua.
"The two loans are in line with the World Bank's strategic partnership with Tunisia for the period 2023-2027, which aims to strengthen human capital and increase economic opportunities throughout the country," TAP quoted World Bank Resident Representative in Tunisia Alexandre Arrobio as saying.
Arrobio explained that the first loan, worth 300 million dollars, would be added to the emergency food security project to help confront the repercussions of four consecutive years of drought in Tunisia.
The project aims to rationalize wheat imports, support small farmers, and provide climate-resilient seeds for wheat producers.
The second loan, worth 220 million dollars, aims to finance a development project in Tunisia by reducing economic disparity between its various regions through developing infrastructure, especially roads.
