Non-governmental organizations are also important for Azerbaijan as human rights defenders, Samad Seyidov, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE said at the organization’s summer session on Wednesday, an APA correspondent reported from Strasbourg.

He stressed that unfortunately, some non-governmental organizations have become toys in the hands of certain individuals.

“NGOs are very important for Azerbaijan. This issue is also important as human rights defenders. We are aware that even NGOs are sometimes so active that people believe in them more than the government itself," the Azerbaijani MP said.

Seyidov drew attention to the importance of confidence and responsibility in this issue, noting that some NGOs, especially those from abroad, want to change the government and mentality in the country.

"They have become toys in the hands of some people. It can be seen in Hungary, in Azerbaijan. They should not forget that the people trust them and they have a responsibility before people. This problem also exists in Europe itself, for example, in the UK and Germany,” he added.
