Iraqi authorities say they have arrested a top ISIS leader in the left bank of Mosul, APA reports quoting The Baghdad Post.

The detained ISIS leader, identified as Ebrahim Mesha'al Marei, was arrested based on accurate intelligence information.

He was handed over to authorities concerned for further legal measures, the sources who requested anonymity noted.

ISIS terror group captured in mid-2014 large swathes of Iraq and Syria. But a US-led coalition, formed in 2015, managed to oust the terror group from both countries.

Most of the terror group's elements have fled to neighboring countries including Turkey.

Also in Iraq, ISIS sleeper cells still carry out sporadic attacks against civilians and facilities.
