Premarital examination: 92 diagnosed with AIDS in Azerbaijan

As of November 1, 2017, a total of 344,729 people underwent compulsory premarital medical examination in Azerbaijan, Zohra Alimirzayeva, the director of the Scientific Research Institute of Hematology and Transfusion named after B. Eyvazov, told APA.

Of them, who were examined from June 1, 2015 till October 31, 2017, some 23,652 people were diagnosed with thalassemia, 1,288 with syphilis and 255 with AIDS, noted Alimirzayeva.

She went on to say that a total of 116,435 people underwent premarital examination in Azerbaijan in the first ten months of 2017.

“It was found that 13,469 of them were thalassemia carriers while 404 people were diagnosed with syphilis and 92 people with AIDS. 35 couples were diagnosed with thalassemia trait,” Alimirzayeva said.

She added that 11,328 people passed compulsory premarital examination in October 2017. “Some 3 couples, as well as 300 people were diagnosed with thalassemia trait, 26 people were diagnosed with syphilis and 8 with AIDS,” said the institute director.
