Georgia’s interior minister says Marneuli armed incident ‘has nothing to do with politics’

Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili has said that the October 19 armed incident in Gizilhajili village of Marneuli district has nothing to do with politics, APA’s Georgia bureau reported.

The minister said that the investigation into the incident is going on.

“I can not reveal the details of the incident. However this incident has nothing to do with politics,” Mgebrishvili added.

On October 19, unknown persons wounded Jeyhun Chovdarov, a candidate from the ruling Georgian Dream party for municipality membership in Gizilhajili village of Marneuli district, and three other persons who were with him.

Jeyhun Chovdarov is still in hospital, however his condition is stable. Another two wounded have already been discharged home.
