Azerbaijani MP says necessary to create conditions for cable broadcasting of internet TV channels

Azerbaijani MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said Tuesday it is necessary to create conditions for cable broadcasting of internet TV channels in the country.

“TV channels of neighboring countries are broadcast in Azerbaijan through cable broadcasting. For example, Russian channels. As some of them are music and cultural channels, there can be no problems in their operation. However, other TV channels sometimes discredit Azerbaijan,” said Hasanguliyev addressing a parliamentary meeting, APA reported.

He stressed the need to regulate the issue of suspending those TV channels. “All internet TV channels operating in Azerbaijan should be provided with cable broadcasting on the basis of the contract. That is, if the broadcasters rejects it, then it must justify this decision,” the MP said.

Hasanguliyev continued: “If any influential internet television channel is ignored, then it should be able to defend its rights by law. As an example, I can mention APA TV online television channel. It broadcasts quite quality, important and interesting problems. Why shouldn’t this television channel be included in cable broadcasting?”

The MP said that in accordance with the law, if broadcasting of a television channel is suspended, it is possible to be restored within 24 hours. “I think that it is a long period in a century of information technologies. If there is any shortcoming, the broadcaster should eliminate it within 6-8 hours”, he noted.
