Azerbaijan approves new university admission rules

The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has passed a decision approving new rules for admission to higher educational institutions in the country.

The new rules allow an applicant to participate several times in the entrance examinations (in the same academic year) for the same specialty group which he/she chooses, APA reported.

The decision of the Cabinet of Ministers defines the rules for admission of students to state, municipal and private institutions of high learning, as well as educational institutions for special purposes.

According to the rules, a person with the certificate on the completion of full secondary, secondary special or higher education is allowed to participate in university entrance examinations.

To participate in the competition for admission to higher education, applicants must fill e-application in the website of the State Examination Center.

To participate in the competition for admission to higher education, applicants who completed full secondary education in the 2017 academic year must personally verify e-application in the website of the State Examination Center.

Other applicants must personally submit the necessary documents to document admission commissions, created by the State Examination Center, for their applications to be confirmed.

In Azerbaijan, university admission examinations are conducted on specialty groups (I, II, III, IV and V specialty groups). Applicants can participate in entrance examinations for only one of I-IV specialty groups. In addition, regardless of participation in the examinations for one of I-IV specialty groups, applicants are allowed to take part in examinations for V specialty group. Applicants can participate several times in the entrance examinations (in the same academic year) for the same specialty group which they choose.

Specialty groups

I specialty group – in accordance with the language in which the examination is held: the Azerbaijani or Russian language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and foreign languages. Applicants who take part in the examination in Azerbaijani can choose as a foreign language English, German, French or Russian. Applicants who take part in the examination in Russian can choose as a foreign language English, German or French.

II specialty group – in accordance with the language in which the examination is held: the Azerbaijani or Russian language, mathematics, history of Azerbaijan, geography and foreign language. Applicants who take part in the examination in Azerbaijani can choose as a foreign language English, German, French, Russian, Arabic or Persian. Applicants who take part in the examination in Russian can choose as a foreign language English, German or French.

III specialty group – in accordance with the language in which the examination is held: the Azerbaijani or Russian language, literature, mathematics, history and foreign language. Applicants who take part in the examination in Azerbaijani can choose as a foreign language English, German, French, Russian, Arabic or Persian. Applicants who take part in the examination in Russian can choose as a foreign language English, German or French.

IV specialty group – in accordance with the language in which the examination is held: the Azerbaijani or Russian language, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology

V specialty group – in accordance with the language in which the examination is held: the Azerbaijani or Russian language, mathematics and foreign language. Applicants who take part in the examination in Azerbaijani can choose as a foreign language English, German, French or Russian. Applicants who take part in the examination in Russian can choose as a foreign language English, German or French.
