Baku – APA. The number of the sportsmen, who will come to Azerbaijan to participate in European Games – 2015, has been determined, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said at the press conference held at the administrative building of the National Olympic Committee, APA reports. He said that though the European Olympic Committees (EOC) offered participation of 7,000 sportsmen, the Azerbaijani side does not agree to it: “We want 4,000-4,200 sportsmen to participate. The organizers put restrictions on the number of the delegations of all the countries in London Olympic Games. Why can’t we do that? We are offered technical staff to be totally 2,630 persons, but we don’t agree to it, either. And 910 official guests are offered. We’ll have certain proposals regarding it. We will define ourselves the number of the participants. Professionals will be involved to help us.
Azad Rahimov also noted that important sport events will be held after European Games in Azerbaijan: “170 countries will join the World Chess Olympiad in 2016. The same year European Under-20 Football Championship will be held in Azerbaijan. We will organize Islamic Solidarity Games-2017 and plan to host the World Students Games 2019 as well. We are going to bid for 2020 European Football Championship”.
