Caspian littoral countries agree on a number of important provisions of draft Convention

This is reflected in the final Communiqué issued following the 44th meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the development of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.

On April 5-6, Baku hosted the 44th meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the development of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. The meeting was attended by delegations from all five Caspian littoral states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.

In the final Communiqué, the delegations welcomed the outcome of the talks and expressed their gratitude to Azerbaijan for the excellent organization of the meeting.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, in his opening remarks, noted the progress in the negotiations, saying that regular meetings of heads of state and foreign ministers of the Caspian countries creates favorable conditions for a significance convergence of positions and achieving concrete results.

It was stressed that the efforts taken will allow achieving a consensus on all the provision of the draft Convention.

According to the Communiqué, Iran will host the 45th meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group, the date of which is being specified through diplomatic channels.
