"The message, which General Dempsey brought us, is simple and clear: the U.S. presence in Estonia will remain and our progress is very important for the United States and NATO," said Terras, according to the Estonian Broadcasting Corporation (ERR) on Tuesday.

The two generals planted an oak tree next to the Estonian Defense Force headquarters, the ERR report said, and on Monday laid a wreath at the War of Independence victory column in downtown Tallinn.

Dempsey, the highest ranked officer in the U.S. Armed Forces, also met Prime Minister Taavi Roivas and Defense Minister Sven Mikser, as well as meeting U.S. soldiers based in Tapa during his two-day visit to Estonia.
