Police officer shot dead near Chicago, manhunt underway

Baku-APA. A police officer was fatally shot Tuesday morning in Fox Lake, a village in Lake County, ghe U.S. state of Illinois, and a massive manhunt for three suspects is now under way, APA reports quoting XÄ°nhua.

The officer was pursuing people described as suspicious around 8 am, when pepper spray was deployed, and the officer was shot, Chicago Tribune cited Lake County Undersheriff Raymond Rose as saying.

The officer was found in a marshy area, stripped of his gun and other gear, and died at the scene, Rose said.

Police have established a perimeter and are seeking one black male and two white males, with dogs and helicopters along the scene in Lake County.

People in the neighborhood, just north of Chicago, twittered that schools and residents have been placed on lockdown

The manhunt has also affected trains on the Milwaukee District. At least one train has been stopped due to the police activity, and the Ingleside station has been closed. Train services on the Milwaukee District are unlikely to resume until the manhunt ends.
