Baku. Musa Ahmadov - APA-Economics. Electronic Security Center (ESC) under Ministry of Communications and High Technologies addressed to Whatsapp users.

ESC told APA-Economics that recently, Azerbaijani whatsapp users receive messages from Whatsapp accounts registered abroad: “The sent messages say: “Whatsapp Screen Views and Smiles Update are available for your phone number +994XXXXXXXXX. Update now!” or “Click this text””.

In order to draw attention of users, they firstly create a Whatsapp Group, enter “victim” user’s number, then send message, image and contact: “If you click the “Click this text”, the user is directed to some web pages on the browser, then a page, where he/she must enter number, opens. You can see these web pages in different views”.

When the user enters his/her number the page opened on the browser, he/she already joins the services and fee is paid from his/her balance. Consequently, the users become victim of swindlers. He/she face financial loss until the service is deactivated.

In some cases, Phone’s SMS window opens when the user clicks “Continue”, “Download” buttons. Then if he/she clicks “send” button, short message is sent and the user joins the service.

“ESC recommends all users to be careful when they face such cases, not to enter personal data on web pages that they have not any information about them. This personal information includes phone number, data of bank cards and etc. The users, joined the service, can send a text message “STOP DL” to 6555 to deactivate the service”.
