Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli made the remarks on Friday during the meeting with media heads on “National, moral and religious values: historicity and modernism" organized by the Committee on the initiative of the Press Council, APA reports.

Gurbanli said that we shouldn’t allow making people adopting religious beliefs by force and the Azerbaijani Constitution protects the rights of citizens in this regard.

“It is important not to confuse fights against islamophobia and harmful tendencies. We should fight against islamophobia. Sometimes, we regard any rally in European countries as islamophobia. After studying it becomes clear that even a mosque worker of that country took part and made a speech at that rally. Thus, the matter was not holding a rally against Islam, but being against radical views and actions under the name of Islam. We must also be against such tendencies. We should take into account the fact that the most prestigious Islamic research centers are located in the US and Europe. Those centers are using some aspects of Islam,” said Gurbanli.
