“But we’re hoping that during your terms of office the United States too will play a major role in the liberation of Azerbaijani lands. The international community, specially the United States, must not remain indifferent to the destruction of large numbers of our cultural and religious monuments in Nagorno-Karabakh. Everyone in the world is now aware of the Khojaly tragedy that took place as part of the invasion. Generally, our casualties in the war period were a lot. Civilian population, among them elderly people, women and children, were mercilessly massacred. For us, this is a wound still fresh. We’re hoping the United States will play a role in the healing of this wound,” he said.
Expressing his respect for Pashazade, Ambassador Cekuta said he is also sorry for the abovementioned events.
“Together, we must look to the future and find solutions to these problems. We must call all for peace guided by the principles that heavenly books teach us,” he noted.
Imam Yahya Hendi, in turn, said in the world there are forces trying to tarnish Islam, adding that the terrorist organizations like ISIL, Taliban and Boko Haram can not speak on behalf of Islam.
“Islam preaches peace, not terrorism. I believe that the occupation to which Azerbaijan was subjected will come to an end, and I, along with my Muslim brothers will be able to visit these lands,” the Imam underlined.
