Baku-APA. U.S. President Barack Obama will host King Abdullah II of Jordan at the White House on Dec. 5 to discuss issues of the Middle East, the White House said on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The leaders will discuss efforts to counter Islamic State (IS) group and find a political solution in Syria, provide humanitarian assistance to refugees from the conflicts in Iraq and Syria, and take steps to calm tensions in Jerusalem, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Obama looks forward to discussing with King Abdullah opportunities to strengthen the U.S.-Jordan strategic partnership and advance political, economic, and security cooperation of the two countries, Earnest said.

"This meeting is another opportunity to continue our work together to promote peace, prosperity, and reform in the Middle East," the spokesman added.

Jordan is a key ally of the U.S. in the Middle East. It is one of the five Arab countries that took part in the U.S.-led air strikes against IS militants in Syria.
