Baku – APA. The US Vice-President Joe Biden has attended the Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit.

APA reports quoting Turkish news agencies that Biden said Istanbul is the most appropriate country for holding Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit:

“We are in the vitally important region. I came here from Ukraine. Russia’s acts in Ukraine and occupation of Crimea cannot be accepted and we’ll continue to fight against it. We intend to do everything to defend NATO space, increase influence of NATO. European energy security is also among our priority issues. Russia use energy as a weapon trampling on the international law. Dependence on one source causes problem for Europe for a long time. It’s already needed to act. I don’t mean Russia not to be supplier. However, Europe should diversify its energy sources. Russia can continue to be a player here observing international rules”.

J. Biden stated that Though many did not believe, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan was realized: “This is an even changing rules of the game. We’ll establish reliable energy zone in the Mediterranean Sea region with the participation of Azerbaijan and Iraq. Whole region will benefit by this. Cooperation of Israel, Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Cyprus may improve the regional welfare. This will be possible through providing energy security”.
