U.S. hosts event on Azerbaijan-Israel relations with participation of ambassadors - <span style="color: red;">PHOTO

Active members of the Jewish community of Maryland State and representatives of the Azerbaijani community living here attended the meeting held at Beth Sholom Congregation, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the U.S. told APA.

Delivering speeches at the event, Israeli and Azerbaijani Ambassadors firstly spoke about the friendly relations between the two countries and peoples, cooperation that is growing and expanding every year. They stated that these relations basing on solid grounds are example in terms of some aspects, underlined increasing dynamics of the relations, as well as contribution of mutual visits of the two countries’ top officials to this process. It was noted that a few days ago, Israeli Defense Minister visited Azerbaijan for the first time since the country gained independence.

Ambassador Harpaz said in his lecture that Israel ratified visa facilitation agreement for diplomatic and service passports holders between the two countries on the day of meeting. He also praised the religious tolerance prevailing in the Azerbaijani society and noted that people of different religions live in a free and secure environment. Israeli Ambassador said that cases of anti-Semitism are not witnessed in our country and about 30 000 Jews co-exist in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding in Azerbaijan.

Suleymanov touched on provision of freedom of religion and conscience, protection and promotion of religious and cultural diversity and tolerance in Azerbaijan that is a secular state and spoke about Azerbaijani President’s progressive policy in this direction.

Following lectures, the speakers answered the questions on the Israeli-Azerbaijani relations, developments in the Eurasian region and multilateral cooperation with the United States.

Rafael Harpaz, who is on a visit to the U.S., is expected to attend a number of joint events on the Israeli-Azerbaijani relations in Washington, Philadelphia and New York.
