Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. The Caucasus Muslims Board’s Council of Gazis has issued a fatwa concerning the start of Ramadan.

The Caucasus Muslims Board told APA that the advent of Ramadan is a great joy for the Islamic world, because the Holy Koran was sent down in this particular month, and this month brings blessings and mercy.

According to the fatwa, the Caucasus Muslims Board, together with the ANAS astrophysical observatory, have compiled a guide book and an exclusive calendar which shows the start of Ramadan, prayer times, daily prayers and the date of the holiday in compliance with the Azerbaijan’s horizon. According to latest calculations, 29 June in the Gregorian calendar coincides with the 1st day of Ramadan in the Hijri calendar. And 28 June is the night of intention for fasting. The Azerbaijani government has decided to celebrate the Muslim holiday of Ramadan in two days – on June 28-29. The holiday prayer of Ramadan will be performed on July 28 or 29, depending upon the emergence of half-moon.

The Council of Gazis tells clerics to strictly avoid sitting at Ehsan tables before Iftar. Drastic measures will be taken against those who ignore the notice. The Caucasus Muslims Board is asking residents to inform it if they encounter such cases.
