Allahshukur Pashazadeh: ‘During the Soviet period, there were 17 mosques in Azerbaijan, and today there are about 2,000 mosques, as well as churches and synagogues’

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Board Allahshukur Pashazadeh said this during his meeting with a delegation comprised of the members the Azerbaijani Friendship Group in the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, APA reports.

Allahshukur Pashazadeh said the construction of mosques continues with the president’s support and that it manifests Azerbaijan’s attitude toward religions.

Chairman of International and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament Samad Seyidov remarked that the Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia relations are a great example of unity for the world. According to him, Azerbaijan is a country that represents its modernity and ancient religion in international organizations: “I’m proud that Azerbaijan, beside representing itself in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at a high level, is also spreading Islamic values throughout the world. We extend our gratitude to Saudi Arabia for supporting us in international organizations, particularly in the UN”.

Head of the Azerbaijani Friendship Group in the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia Abdullah ibn Muhammad An-Nasir said there are some powers that have been trying to cause confrontations and disagreement in Islam for 62 years: “We need to be always vigilant and not to succumb to such provocations”, he said.

Following the meeting, Allahshukur Pashazadeh presented the members of the delegation a board depicting Icherisheher.
