Azerbaijani National Security Ministry prevents smuggling of 36.5 kg of drugs from Iran

The ministry’s PR Center told APA that Azerbaijani citizen Hasanov Eldar Gurban and a citizen of Iran named Rza have smuggled a large amount of drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan conspiring with other people. It was known that Iranian citizen Rza (aka - Aga) organized drug smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan in early January, 2013 and instructed Eldar Hasanov to take that drug from the secret place and send to Russia.

Eldar Hasanov took the drug and hid them in other places.

As a result of operations conducted by the ministry, Eldar Hasanov was detained and 25.6 kg of heroin were found and seized.

Under another operation, Azerbaijani citizens Akbarov Tofig Agabala and Bagirov Zaur Abbasali engaging in drug smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan have been detained and 8.5 kg of hashish and over 2.440 kg of opium were seized from them.

The Main Investigation Department of the National Security Ministry has launched a criminal case under the article #206.4 (the acts which are provided by articles 206.1-206.3 of the present Code, committed by the organized group), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances in large amount and on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Eldar Hasanov, tofig Akbarov and Zaur Bagirov were sentenced to pretrial detention. The investigation is underway to identify other participants of these illegal actions.
