APA reports quoting Fars news agency that bilateral military cooperation, as well as regional security and stability issues were discussed at the meeting.
Firouzabadi said that Iran prefers establishing comprehensive and friendly relations with Muslim and neighboring countries in its foreign policy: “At a conference held abroad, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was invited to visit Iran and he invited Hassan Rouhani to visit his country. Azerbaijani President’s visit to Iran created an opportunity for rapid development of relations between the two countries in various fields. We have had deep and friendly relations since the leadership of the late President Heydar Aliyev.”
He said that the defense ministers of the two countries held several meetings over the last decade, cooperation programs were implemented: “A part of Azerbaijan’s military needs is provided with Iranian defence products. We have today discussed the issues on organization of military trainings, friendly meetings, provision of techniques and weapons for the Azerbaijani Army.”
Firouzabadi noted that the delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister was familiarized with Iranian-made ammunitions and other techniques, some agreements were reached: “We are ready to cooperate with neighboring, Muslim Azerbaijan. Military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran serves prosperity and stability of the two countries.”
Zakir Hasanov arrived in Iran for an official visit on April 14. The visit takes place at the invitation of the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan. An official welcome ceremony was held for the Azerbaijani Defense Minister yesterday. Afterwards, Hasanov visited the grave of those killed in Iran-Iraq war. Following this, the Azerbaijani and Iranian defense ministers met at Iran’s Defense Ministry. At the same time, the Azerbaijani minister plans to meet with Iranian officials.
