Militants kill 3 sodiers in southern Yemen

The incident occurred on Tuesday when militants wearing security uniforms attacked the soldiers guarding a Special Forces base in al-Hawtah district, Xinhua quoted a Yemeni Interior Ministry official as saying.

The assailants managed to flee the scene when security forces returned fire, the official said on condition of anonymity.

On September 30, the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia group stormed an army headquarters in the southeastern Hadhramaut Province and held number of soldiers captive.

The hostage-taking ended after an operation in which the government said all the gunmen and an unspecified number of hostages were killed.

In a statement released later, militants said the last month attack in Hadhramaut had targeted a joint US-Yemeni base used to direct CIA-run drone strikes against al-Qaeda members.
