Baku-APA. French President Francois Hollande on Saturday condemned "with extreme firmness" the bombing attacks in southern Turkey near the border with Syria which have led to "dozens of casualties and many wounded", APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"In these tragic circumstances the Head of State expressed, on behalf of France, his solidarity with Turkish people and the authorities," the French president said in a statement.
On the same day, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius also strongly denounced the bombings in Turkey and expressed his condolences to the families of victims, said a statement from the minister's office.
Explosions occurred on Saturday in the Turkish town of Reyhanli near the border with Syria. At least 40 people were killed and a hundred more injured in the bombings, according to Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler, who said the number of casualties may continue to increase, as many of the injuries are severe.
Earlier media reports said tensions have already been high in the area for a couple of weeks. Lately, there was a gang fight between Syrian refugees and Turkish youths in Reyhanli.
Turkey is facing an influx of Syrian refugees with the worsening situation in Syria.
Earlier in May, one Turkish border guard was killed and six others were wounded in a clash at the Syrian border.
