Baku hosts Azerbaijan-Turkey business forum

APA-Economics reports that Turkish Minister of Trade Zafer Caglayan and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev also attended the business forum.

Addressing the event Shahin Mustafayev noted that political, cultural, economic relations are developing between Turkey and Azerbaijan. The countries have especially come closer as a result of the recent projects of regional importance.

“$80 billion was invested in Azerbaijan’s economy during the years of independence, half is foreign investments. Azerbaijan’s economy constitutes 75% of the economy of the South Caucasus,” Shahin Mustafayev said and added that Turkish companies play important role in the development of Azerbaijan’s economy. Minister noted that there are good conditions to increase the trade turnover between the countries.

Minister called on the Turkish businessmen to cooperate with Azerbaijan in non-oil sector, especially agrarian sector, tourism, production of agricultural products, transit shipment.

Zafer Caglayan spoke about cooperation between the two countries from political up to economic relations. Touching on the Nagorno Karabakh problem Zafer Caglayan said:
“Turkey wants the occupied territories to be returned to Azerbaijan and Karabakh problem to be solved soon. This is the wish of the entire Turkey.”

State Minister said joint activity will produce positive results. He noted the possibility of Turkish companies’ participation in the projects in ship construction, agriculture and construction.

Zafer Caglayan advised the companies to take into account the existing law while establishing cooperation.
“Problems, lawsuits have negative influence on the relations between the countries,” he said.

Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO), Azerbaijan Investment Company held presentations. Turkish businessmen were informed about Azerbaijan’s economic opportunities, potential, priority projects.
