Today, within the framework of the 71st session of the UN World Tourism Organization's European Regional Commission held in Baku, a thematic conference on "From Crisis to Rise: Advancing Climate Action in Tourism after COP29" was organized, APA-Economics reports.

The conference discussed integrating the tourism sector into national and global climate policies to expand climate measures in the tourism sector post-COP29, the necessity to accelerate climate actions in tourism and reduce emissions, promoting sustainable tourism practices in the European region, and mobilizing the necessary resources for a green transition.

It was noted that the Glasgow Declaration and the "COP29 Declaration on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector" encourage government bodies, private businesses, and other stakeholders in the tourism sector to adopt targets for carbon emissions reduction strategies and support measures in this direction.

The conference included panel sessions on "Mitigation – Practical Steps for the Future of Low-Carbon Tourism" and "Adaptation – Preparing Tourism for a Changing Climate."

Panel sessions featured discussions on decarbonization in tourism, practical approaches and real solutions for measuring and reducing emissions, managing climate risks such as sea-level rise, extreme weather conditions, and threats to ecosystems, the use of sustainable infrastructure, and integrating adaptation measures into tourism planning.

The panel discussions also covered measures taken in Azerbaijan's tourism sector against climate change, including the preparation of the "Climate Action Plan for Tourism" and the application of sustainable infrastructure principles in tourism development.
