The main institutions in the field of combating international crime, namely the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, highlighted the importance of SHERLOC to member states by referring to the speech of Republic of Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS) employee Sanan Aliyev on the X platform, APA reports.
The said post, presented with reference to the SSS employee, who spoke at the Working Group on International Cooperation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, says:
"Utilizing the SHERLOC platform has significantly enhanced our capacity to assess dual criminality issues and analyze the criminal procedural provisions across different jurisdictions. This tool is indispensable in ensuring that our mutual legal assistance requests are precise and compliant with international legal standards. It exemplifies the vital role of comprehensive legal resources in fostering effective global cooperation in criminal investigations.
Then what is SHERLOC?
The SHERLOC (Sharing Electronic Resources and Laws on Crime) is an international information database, which includes legislative acts and judicial practices of member states, created to ensure the accessibility of information regarding the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its three Protocols, as well as the international legal framework against terrorism.
In the past years, as a result of the efforts of the representatives of the member states, the scope and capabilities of the international SHERLOC system, the coefficient of usefulness in the field of international cooperation have been significantly increased, and general work in this direction is ongoing.
