VI Plenary Session of UN Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies held in Baku -UPDATED

The opening ceremony of the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the United Nations Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities – the GlobE Network – was held, APA reports.

At the opening ceremony Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev delivered the address of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the participants of the event.

Following the address, Brigitte Strobel-Shaw, Chief of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) delivered a eech.

In her speech, she emphasized that corruption knows no borders and highlighted the importance of joint efforts in combating it.

Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, in his speech, noted that the fight against corruption in Azerbaijan is carried out based on a comprehensive approach: “Alongside criminal prosecution, wide-ranging measures are implemented through institutional reforms, public awareness campaigns, the application of digital technologies, and the involvement of civil society.”

Speaking at the Plenary Meeting Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan emphasized that Azerbaijan actively participates in the UN Convention against Corruption and is represented in all its mechanisms: “I thank the Government of Azerbaijan. I hope that, as an active member of the GLOBE Network, Azerbaijan will continue to play an active role in strengthening the fight against corruption and in the recovery of assets."

Later, Nasser Abaalkhalil, Chair of the Steering Committee of the GlobE Network, provided information about the work of the Network and called on non-member countries to join the Network.

After the speeches, the agenda of the Plenary Meeting was adopted.

The Sixth Plenary Meeting within the framework of the United Nations Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities – the GlobE Network – has commenced, APA reports.

The city of Baku is hosting the Sixth Plenary Meeting within the framework of the United Nations Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities – the GlobE Network.

More than 300 representatives from over 120 state institutions of 92 countries – including 21 prosecutor’s offices, 53 independent anti-corruption agencies, and 16 international organizations – are participating in the event in person, while more than 60 participants are attending online.

Also, nearly 50 high-ranking officials representing law enforcement agencies of various countries are taking part in the event.

At the Plenary Meeting whose main topic is “Opportunities for the Application of New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in the Fight Against Corruption” over 100 speeches are expected to be delivered in panels, sessions, and parallel events covering subtopics such as the confiscation of assets obtained through corruption, direct recovery of acquired assets, halting suspicious transactions in financial operations, international cooperation in the rapid freezing of bank accounts during criminal proceedings, public awareness in the fight against corruption, and more.

At the same time, within the framework of the Plenary Meeting, special sessions and parallel events will be held at the initiative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty,” as well as regarding the fight against environmental offenses related to our country’s COP29 presidency.

In addition, numerous bilateral meetings and the signing of memorandums on mutual cooperation are planned within the event.
