No increase in radiation levels in Azerbaijan after the US strike on Iran's nuclear facilities

There was no increase in radiation levels in Azerbaijan after the US strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, said Islam Mustafayev, Director General of the Institute of Radiation Problems of the Ministry of Science and Education, Corresponding Member of ANAS, in response to APA 's inquiry.

Islam Mustafayev said that there is no danger to Azerbaijan in terms of radiation: "Events occur up to 1,000 kilometers from Azerbaijan. At such distances, the explosion of nuclear facilities, even a reactor, cannot have an effect. On the day of that incident, our expedition conducted research as far as Zangilan, Imishli, and Bilasuvar, and we did not know that there would be an explosion. As a result of the inspections, no increase in the radiation background was observed. Currently, our expedition is in those regions. We have constantly operating, monitoring devices. Data is transmitted to the Ministry of Emergency Situations through automatic stations located along the perimeter of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The country's radiation background is under comprehensive observation. Brigades equipped with the most diverse, accurate devices are working here. Currently, there is no increase in the radiation background. According to studies conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency, no effect has been observed. At the same time, such effects are reduced by a million times even up to a distance of 1,000 kilometers. Therefore, this cannot seriously affect Azerbaijan. For comparison,, Kiev is located 135 km from Chernobyl. When the Kharkov Power Plant exploded in Chernobyl, they neither evacuated Kiev nor imposed a special regime. That is, there was no serious impact. Therefore, I assure everyone that there is no serious impact and danger at this level yet. But we do not know the plans of the attacking country. In any case, we must do our job.

It should be noted that the US Air Force launched strikes on Iran this morning. The attack targeted nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
