A media tour was organized at Lachin International Airport, APA's local bureau reports.
Narmin Khalilova, head of the Airport’s Public Relations Department, stated that the opening of the airport is a historic milestone: "This is Azerbaijan’s ninth international airport and the third such facility built in the liberated territories."
It was noted that Lachin Airport is a symbol of return and revival. The airport is located in a complex mountainous terrain, at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level. This project is also a great engineering achievement, demonstrating our professionalism, strategic thinking, and ability to carry out ambitious projects even in difficult conditions: "This airport is a key transportation hub connecting Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur with other parts of the country and international routes. It will accelerate the region’s economic, social, and logistical integration, providing a significant boost to tourism, transportation, and investment development."
A runway measuring 3,000 meters in length and 60 meters in width—capable of accommodating any type of aircraft—has been built at the airport. The 5,000-square-meter terminal building has the capacity to serve at least 200 passengers per hour. For passenger convenience, the terminal includes a VIP lounge, check-in and security systems, baggage conveyors, retail outlets, and food courts. The fully automated Air Traffic Control Tower ensures that flights are managed in compliance with international regulations and safety standards. The infrastructure established here enables the safe and efficient conduct of flights in accordance with ICAO and IATA standards.
The airport fully complies with international standards. The runway is 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide, capable of accommodating all types of aircraft. The apron, covering more than 60,000 square meters, is designed to simultaneously host and service eight airplanes. The terminal building has an area of 5,000 m² and can serve 200 passengers per hour. It includes a VIP lounge, check-in and security zones, catering facilities, baggage systems, and digital infrastructure.
It was noted that the complex includes a modern air traffic control tower, two transformer stations, backup generators, pump and wastewater treatment systems, video surveillance, and a high-speed communication system. All facilities are equipped with the latest technologies.
