"We are proud that our city is hosting Baku Climate Action Week this week," Mukhtar Babayev, the designated President of COP29, said on the opening day of the Baku Climate Action Week, APA reports.
He said that international climate weeks are becoming a tradition: "This is what motivated us to hold the Baku Climate Week. I am sure that Baku Climate Action Week will be very productive like other climate weeks. At the meeting with the UN Secretary General, great support was expressed for our activities in connection with the COP29. One of the main targets of the COP is climate finance. Our main goal is to provide accessible climate finance, taking into account the different capabilities of countries. For this, we closely cooperate with international financial institutions. At the global level, institutions operate to reduce poverty, ensure sustainability, and ensure the availability of climate finance. The financial resources to be mobilized should also be used effectively, a balance should be expected. Currently, a low development strategy is being developed. In this process, productive work with all relevant institutions is continued. Climate change is being felt all over the world. The increasing number of natural disasters in recent years shows the extent of the danger."
