Solar activity has been at a high level over the past day, the Department of Astrophysics of the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU) told APA.

It was noted that on July 23, strong M3.9/Sn (R1-minor) flares occurred in some areas of the Sun's surface, and on July 24, M2.4 flares occurred in the eastern part:

"Other regions have been active with C-class flares at the C4.5 and C8.4 levels (which do not significantly affect Earth). The C4.5 flare was accompanied by a coronal mass ejection. Although no Earth-directed coronal mass ejection is currently observed in coronagraphs, M-class (able to disrupt radio communications) and X-class (stronger) flares are predicted to occur on the Sun until July 26. There is a small chance of an S1 (minor) geomagnetic storm from July 23-25."

"The solar wind parameters will return to normal levels on July 24-25 due to the effect of the coronal mass ejection that left the Sun on July 21. Today, the geomagnetic storm is expected to continue at G1-G2 (mild-moderate) levels. Although the effect of the coronal mass ejection is to weaken on July 25, the geomagnetic field is expected to remain active. Currently, the geomagnetic level is in an unstable state. The geomagnetic field will return to normal, calm levels starting from July 26," the report noted.
