“The fate of humanity amid the climate crisis is hanging by the thread," United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said as he delivered speech during the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP28, APA reports.

Guterres addressed world leaders and he said "Turn this conference into a new hope for the future."

The UN Secretary-General said “The fate of humanity is hanging by the thread” as he warned about the disastrous effects of climate change.

He noted that this conference must be a spark of hope in the fight against climate change.

“You can prevent the destruction, burning of our planet. We need leadership, cooperation and political will. And we need it now,” the Secretary-General said, adding that a fair approach to climate change is "long overdue."

“Developing countries are facing great dangers due to disasters that they did not commit," he said.
