The 23rd Conference of Attorneys General of the Commonwealth of Nations member states kicked off in Mombasa on June 10, Attorney General's Office told APA.
According to the report, the heads of the Kenyan and Australian public prosecutors' offices delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the conference, highly appreciating the participation of the Azerbaijani prosecutor's office delegation as a special guest and emphasizing the active role of Azerbaijan in international legal cooperation.
Then, Attorney General Kamran Aliyev chaired the main session dedicated to national approaches to early prevention of terrorism before criminal prosecution. The meeting discussed the issues of preventing radicalization and applying mechanisms for early intervention in the causes of terrorism.
Kamran Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan has always attached special importance to international cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, terrorist financing and transnational organized crime, and informed about the consistent measures taken in Azerbaijan in this direction under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
The session was addressed by the Attorney General of Uganda, Jane Abodo, the Attorney General of South Australia, Martin Kinton, and Jennifer Riedel, Counselor of the British High Commission in Nairobi. The panel discussions shared national experiences on preventive intervention mechanisms applied by prosecutorial bodies in the field of preventing radicalization and violent extremism.
Within the framework of the conference, the Prosecutor General held bilateral meetings with the Prosecutor Generals of the United Kingdom, Australia, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Seychelles and other countries, discussing the exchange of experience in the fight against crime, the possibilities of expanding legal cooperation and the contractual-legal framework. Kamran Aliyev gave an interview to local media representatives of Kenya.
