“Immediately after the natural disaster that occurred in October of last year, a prompt meeting was held with the heads of responsible and relevant entities,” Head of the Baku City Executive Power, Eldar Azizov, commented the current situation in his statement to journalists, APA reports.
“A while ago, in response to an inquiry from the Baku City Executive Power, the United Water Supply Service of Big Cities operating under Under the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan reported that work has already begun on the preparation of a necessary project to modernize the capital’s rainwater drainage system. According to preliminary assessments, the implementation of this program will take at least two years,” he said.
The executive head noted that such problems exist even in the most developed countries of the world: “However, in our case, an objective factor is added to this: the existing engineering and communication system was once designed for small residential houses that were located in the area. However, now multi-story residential complexes have been built in those areas. The current infrastructure is physically unable to cope with such a volume of water, and we must be prepared to face such situations for at least the next two years.”
