In Azerbaijan, those who force minors into early marriage will be arrested, this is reflected in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code, which was discussed today at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on family, women and children, APA reports.
Under current legislation, forcing a minor into an early marriage is punishable by a fine of three thousand to four thousand manats or imprisonment for up to four years.
According to the draft, the concept of "early marriage" is introduced into the legislation, rather than coercion into early marriage.
"Early marriage" means a union with a minor without marriage for the purpose of creating a family.
Forcing a person under the age of marriage into an early marriage is punishable by a fine of three thousand to four thousand manats or imprisonment for up to four years.
