"For a year now, the Environmental Protection First (EPF) Coalition has been carrying out its activities. The coalition is closely monitoring the damage caused by mining enterprises operating in Armenia to the environment of the Caucasus over the past year. Member organizations of the coalition are actively working in this direction," Co-founder of the Environmental Protection First Coalition Amin Mammadov stated during a briefing held for journalists today, APA reports.

He recalled that the coalition, which was established in the summer of 2023, initially began its activities by stating Armenia's plans to build a metallurgical plant in the area bordering Nakhchivan, historically known as Arazdayan: "As a result of these efforts, the construction of the plant, which was projected with the financing by foreign investors, was halted. The solidarity of NGOs operating in Azerbaijan in protesting this played a role."

He emphasized that Armenia continues to seriously violate the requirements of the Aarhus Convention, which it has joined and which demands ensuring public access to information, as well as the requirements of the Espoo Convention, which mandates Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in transboundary areas.
