Recently, outbreaks of the harmful insect called the American white butterfly have been observed in Absheron Peninsula and Baku city, as well as in the northern (Khachmaz, Guba, Davachi, Siyazan regions) and southern regions (Astara, Lankaran) of the republic, APA reports.
Leading researcher of the Institute of Zoology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Center of Applied Zoology, Doctor of Philosophy in Biology, Associate Professor Irada Nuriyeva told APA that one of the most important issues in the fight against said insects are strict adherence to control measures, otherwise, it will spread to other regions of the republic shortly and may increase massively.
Baku City Executive Greening Farm Union also informed APA about the mentioned issue that measures are being taken to fight against these pests: "Baku City Executive Greening Farm Union conducts regular mechanical and chemical control measures throughout the year."
For information, note that the American white butterfly - Hyphantria cunea is a serious threat to orchards, ornamental trees and forests. In total, it has the potential to damage more than 250 tree species.
