“Unfortunately, the drawing of caricatures of the Prophet of Islam, the burning of the Quran, and attacks on mosques are European realities. In monoethnic Armenia, the destruction of religious monuments in territories historically inhabited by Azerbaijanis is observed,” said the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade at the international scientific conference themed "Islamophobia: Unveiling Bias and Dismantling Stigmas" held in Baku, APA reports.
He said that after the deportation of Azerbaijanis from their historical lands in Armenia, more than 300 religious and historical monuments were destroyed: “Today, Armenian religious circles abuse the World Council of Churches and Christian fanaticism. After the destruction of more than 300 religious and historical monuments following the deportation of Azerbaijanis from their historical lands, the Caucasus Muslims Office suspended the activity of the Yerevan Qadi. Recently, we have restored its activity. Today, Armenia sows interreligious discord and uses Christian fanaticism against Azerbaijan.”
Sheikh-ul-Islam also expressed gratitude for the restoration of the activity of the Yerevan Qadi: “I thank the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmat Hajiyev for his support in restoring the activity of the Yerevan Qadi as we restore our national spiritual values and historical traditions. The religious monuments operating in Azerbaijan today are the highest expression of tolerance. Respect for the religious values of millions of people today is important. Islamophobic thoughts and actions must be denied today.”
