The first group of pilgrims from Azerbaijan will depart for the Hajj pilgrimage on May 25, Vusal Jahangiri, the head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Caucasian Muslims Office and the Head of the Hajj Electronic System, told APA.

He noted that other groups of pilgrims will also depart for Hajj in stages.

Saudi Arabia has announced that it will impose strict penalties on those who violate the rules during this year's Hajj season. APA reports that the new rules, which will take effect starting tomorrow and last for 44 days, state that individuals who attempt to enter Mecca and holy sites without Hajj permits will face severe punishments. They may be fined up to 20,000 riyals (approximately $5,300). Those who assist unauthorized individuals in obtaining pilgrimage visas may be fined up to 100,000 riyals (approximately $26,000). Additionally, foreign visitors attempting unauthorized pilgrimage may be deported and banned from entering the country for 10 years. Vehicles carrying individuals with unauthorized pilgrimage visas may also be confiscated by court order.
