"Azerbaijan is for delimitation of the state border with Georgia soon,” Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva told ONA.

“We hope that this process will complete in a very short time. Azerbaijan is ready for it. The state border issue between Azerbaijan and Georgia is solving based on the rules existing in international practice, as well as in bilateral format within the framework of mutual coordination. Meetings of the State Commission are held. So far 11 meetings have been held. In total, 314 km out of 480 km borders between the two countries have been agreed within the framework of state commissions. 166 km of the territory is being examined by experts” she stated.

Commenting on Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili’s statement on the 1938 document on borders between Georgia and Azerbaijan, the spokeswoman said that one of the documents referenced is a 1:500,000 scale schematic map of 1938.

“This is a map adopted by Azerbaijan and Georgian SSRs. Then, the USSR decided to develop clearer 1:100,000 scale maps in 1942. There is also a map confirmed by the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR in 1963. These maps are referenced when considering the delimitation issue at the working group level. There has been no problem yet regarding this.”
