Multiple terrorists have detonated their suicide vests on Friday in Sri Lanka during an operation held by local law enforcement agencies in the city of Sammanturai, where the local police have seized the underground factory producing explosives, ONA reports citing the Sri Lankan news portal Ada Derana.

According to the military, during the shootout with the law enforcement officers, several militants detonated their suicide vests. The police have discovered flags and uniform belonging to the Islamic State terrorist group

Earlier, the Sri Lankan military has detained three people carrying explosives outside of a railway station in Colombo, the Newsfirst portal informed.

Three explosions rocked the Sri Lankan city of Kalmunai earlier on Friday during an anti-terrorist operation held by local law enforcement agencies. There have been no reports of casualties.

On April 21, a series of terrorist attacks, unprecedented in the country’s history, hit Sri Lanka. A total of eight explosions occurred in luxury hotels and churches in the cities of Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa during Easter services. Three hundred and fifty-nine people had been reported dead, however, it was later revealed that medical agencies incorrectly overestimated the number of casualties. According to the latest reports, the attacks killed around 250 people. Reports suggest that about 80 people were arrested. The country’s authorities confirmed that the explosions had been carried out by suicide bombers who were Sri Lankan nationals.
