World Radiocommunication Conference starts today

International Telecommunications Union will organize the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-07) in Geneva from October 22 to November 16. Azerbaijan Communications and Information Technologies Ministry said the country will also be present at the conference which will bring together 190 countries.
Mazahim Guliyev, international relations officer of the ministry, and Kamal Vahidov, State Radio Frequencies Department officer, will represent Azerbaijan at the event.
World Radiocommunication Conference is organized to review, and, if necessary, revise the Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and the geostationary-satellite and non-geostationary-satellite orbits./
Azerbaijani representatives will bring up the issue of the country’s aspiration to join the European Broadcasting Area which is bounded on the west by the western boundary of Region 1, on the east by the meridian 40° East of Greenwich and on the south by the parallel 30° North so as to include the western part of former USSR, the northern part of Saudi Arabia and that part of those countries bordering the Mediterranean within these limits.
In addition, Iraq, Jordan and that part of the territory of Turkey lying outside the above limits are included in the European Broadcasting Area.
The European Broadcasting Area plays a part in the definition of eligibility for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
At present Azerbaijan has difficulty with recognition of television and radio broadcasters in Europe and the country plans to apply to the ITU for accession.
