SOCAR to commence construction of oil refinery at Ceyhan Port next year

Next year the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to start construction of an oil refinery at Turkish Port of Ceyhan, the outfall of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline.
Rovnag Abdullayev, President of SOCAR, said construction work will commence in 2008.
“We will build a refinery at the annual capacity of 10-15 million tons of oil at the first phase and a petrochemical complex at the second phase. We are now negotiating to acquire 1,000 hectares of land for construction site. It is necessary to calculate the environmental aspects too. The study will be completed by the year-end or early next year,†he noted.
He said that the project is estimated to cost about $4 billion.
