Baku hosts International Conference on Material and Information Sciences in High Technologies

The three-day conference has brought together two Nobel prize-winners, Professor Lotfi Zadeh and famous scientists and figures from different countries.
Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, inaugurated the conference, saying the government prioritizes creation of scientific research centers within the scope of regional innovation zones establishment project.
The conference will discuss a great number of issues ranging from nanotechnology to application of technology in the economy. Three documents are planned for adoption. These documents will pave the way for complex innovation-oriented laboratories in Azerbaijan.
“Development of nanotechnology is an important step towards high-tech achievements,” said Ali Abbasov.
The United States invested about $9-10 billion in nanotechnology during the past decade while the federal funding for nanotechnology is planned to reach $2-3 billion annually in a few years.
Mahmud Kerimov, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, said the government has to develop nanotechnology policy and encourage fundamental researches. /APA-Economics/
