Mikayil Jabbarov: It was impossible to speak of business opportunities of Azerbaijan in the US five or seven years ago

He stated that it was impossible to speak of the business opportunities of Azerbaijan in the US five or seven years ago, and US has no enough information about Azerbaijan, but Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyevâ€™s policy changed the situation.
â€œWhen I was studying here in 1998 it was difficult to recognize Azerbaijan in the US. But now the US has enough information about Azerbaijan, Americans intend to engage in business in our country. We will do our best in order to preserve this interest,â€ he said.
Jabbarov also touched on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyevâ€™s decree on the development of entrepreneurship. The decree is aimed at eliminating obstacles to the development of enterprise and form more efficient business climate in the country. As per the presidential decree, the Justice, Economic Development, Labor and Social Protection Ministries, State Social Protection Fund, and State Statistical Committee will prepare a package of proposals to organize the activities of entrepreneurial entities on the basis of â€œsingle windowâ€ principle (a single registration body).
Jabbarov also answered the question regarding that there was a long distance between Azerbaijan and California, and which products of Azerbaijan will be sold in this market.
â€œThe distance is really long, transport fees are high. You know that California market is the 7th economy in the world. All the producers of the world want to sell their products in this market.
I would like to underline two momentums as a result of the debates. The role of the services increases when the role of products reduces in Azerbaijani economy as in the world. Here we should speak about financial services, banking and insurance activity. California is regarded as one of the influential financial centers. The second is that there are rare spheres of economy in Azerbaijan which are specific to us. For example, pomegranate production in agriculture. One American businessman raised an issue on the import of pomegranate. Though pomegranate is grown in California, with this example I want to show that despite the transport fees, we are optimistic on cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, metallurgy, information technology.
