Azerbaijan State Shipping Company is looking forward to Russian Federal Agency for Sea and River Transport’s okay to its request for a vessel passage via Russia’s waters from April through November.
Although navigation season begins in Russia on April 15 the issue remains open.
“Azerbaijan is anticipating Russian Government’s decision on the issue, which is likely to come in late April,” a source in Azeri Government told APA-Economics.
Azerbaijan applied for a passage through Volga-Don canal, the only route linking Baku to the outside world.
Russia allotted a 25-entry limit for Azerbaijan in 2006 (14 ships via Volga-Don to the Caspian from the Azov and 11 ships back. /APA-Economics/
