Russia’s Federal Agency for Sea and River Transport has not replied to Azerbaijan State Shipping Company’s request to get a vessel passage via Russia’s waters from April to November. Although navigation season began in Russia on April 15 the issue remains open.
“Azerbaijan is anticipating Russian Government’s decision on the issue,” a source in Azeri Government told APA-Economics.
Azerbaijan applied for a passage through Volga-Don canal, the only route linking Baku to the outside world.
Russia allotted 25 entries limit for Azerbaijan in 2006 (14 ships via Volga-Don to the Caspian from the Azov and 11 ships back. /APA-Economics/
