Although the Russian Federation has been calling for integration and friendship challenges in post-Soviet areas, its steps do not coincide with these challenges in many cases. Recent developmentac especially non-allowance of entry of Member of Azerbaijani Parliament Azar Badamov into the country during his visit to Astrakhan is a concrete expression of the contradiction.
The detention of Badamov at the Moscow airport and his deportation without any explanation, who was supposed to attend an event organized by the Russian side, is a new stage in the crisis of confidence between the two countries. And this is not only diplomatic unethicalness, but also a message that carries political symbolism.
Member of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahib Aliyev told APA that non-allowance of MP Azar Badamov into Russia is contrary to friendship relations, as well as a wrong and illogical step of which results can be harmful for Russia.
"The fact that deputy Azar Badamov, who was part of a delegation that went there at the invitation of the Vice-Governor of the Astrakhan region - Chairman of the Government Denis Afanasyev, was detained at the airport in Moscow and banned from entering Russia is not only an unfriendly step. It is also an extremely illogical step that will result in the exact opposite of what those who gave such an order thought. And if they in Russia are not aware of this, if they think that biased policy that they have been pursuing for centuries is still valid in their approach to Azerbaijan, they are very mistaken. I wonder why my esteemed colleague was banned from entering Russia? Is it because he is a member of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Commission of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Working Group on Azerbaijan-Russia Interparliamentary Relations, and the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and because he consistently wants to contribute to the further deepening of friendly relations between the two countries? If Azar Badamov was included in the list of persona-non-grata there, why was it not announced in advance and he was invited to visit Russia?"
Sahib Aliyev, a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament, noted that despite the sincere relations and mutual dialogue emphasized by Patriarch Kirill during his visit to Baku, the refusal to allow an Azerbaijani deputy to enter Russia immediately after his visit is a contradictory act that is incompatible with friendship and logic and does not fit into any framework.
"Allowing such an illogical and unfriendly action immediately after the visit of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to Baku, just like the behavior after the shooting down of our passenger plane near Grozny, does not fit into any framework. In a meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, Patriarch Kirill said that, in his own words, he always comes to our blessed country flying on wings and that the friendly atmosphere here is "correct, reliable, frank dialogue." Yes, Azerbaijan, as the Patriarch of All Russia emphasized, not only pushed the other side to "correct, reliable, frank dialogue", but it has always behaved in this way, first of all, against the same Russia.
As for the Azerbaijani Parliament, not only the esteemed Azar Badamov, but no deputy there has stooped to the level of the Russian Duma members Konstantin Zatulin, Vitaly Milonov, Nikolay Valuev and others, despite their statements directed against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, even insulting them. No one has made a statement that casts doubt on the territorial integrity of Russia and has not insulted the Russian people. Not because we are afraid of anyone. Because we know that Azerbaijan is greater than some states that consider themselves great with decency, honor and dignity, we see how our Leader pursues a policy and we try to act accordingly. At the same time, we are well aware of why the Zatulins acted in this way. They will sooner or later realize that they will not be able to eliminate the geopolitical reality created by Azerbaijan with these actions, but rather, on the contrary, they will further strengthen it," Aliyev concluded.
