US pianist Robert Convey: “Unfortunately I was unfamiliar with Azerbaijani rich music so far”

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova –APA. US pianist Robert Convey is on a visit to Azerbaijan with financial support of US State Department and US embassy in Azerbaijan. The musician held a press-conference on Tuesday, APA reports. US embassy’s culture adviser Dmitriy Tarakhovsky told journalists, the US pianist will perform free concerts in Sumgayit, Baku and Ganja. “The main goal of the visit is the strengthening of cultural relations between the two countries”. Tarakhovsky said alongside with the concerts the musician would give master-classes too. The visit was organized within the framework of “Ambassador of Culture” program carried out by US embassy and will last until May 17. Robert Convey said he visited Azerbaijan for the first time. “I arrived in Baku yesterday and listened Alim Gasimov’s performance. Azerbaijani music is very rich. Unfortunately I was unfamiliar with such music so far. I will perform Gara Garayev’s and Arif Melikov’s works in the concerts here. I will also perform the works of Azerbaijani composers together with my students at the university where I teach”. The US musician said he was familiarized with the performance of Vagif and Aziza Mustafazadeh and he highly appreciated their art. “I was happy when I received this invitation. It was impossible to miss this opportunity. I hope it is not my last visit to Azerbaijan”.
Robert Convey will give concerts in the Sumgayit Musical College on May 14, in Baku Organ Music Hall on May 15 and in Ganja Chamber Music Hall on May 17. All concerts have free entrance.
